World War 1 anomalies:
The following questions should be considered if you know of any of the under mentioned servicemen, please contact us. Colin Kightley has further details of these men.
A. Cripps appears in some records. We believe this is an error for George Cripps who appears on the Church monument.
E. Green is recorded in some records as F Green. We believe him to be Eli Frederick Green, born in Old Stratford, who died aged 30 on 21st February 1919, buried in Valenciennes (St Roch) Communal Cemetery.

Albert Joseph Branson was born in Cosgrove and baptised 19th May 1889 in the then Almshouses at Whalley’s Cottages. His family moved to the Stantonbury district. Albert served with the 18th Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers and died of wounds on 27th May 1918 and is buried at Doullens Communal Cemetery Extension No 2.
Arthur Bernard Brown (listed sometimes as Brawn) was born in Cosgrove and baptised there on 24th August 1886, recorded as Braun. The family moved to Aspley Guise, Bedfordshire when he was a small boy. He was killed in action on 1st December 1917 serving with the 87th Field Ambulance, Royal Army Medical Corps and is listed on the Cambrai Memorial, Louverval, Panel 13.
John Cave Farey was born in Cosgrove in 1873 and his family moved to Northampton when he was a young boy. He was killed in action aged 41 years on 6th January 1915, serving with the 1st Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment and is listed on Le Touret Memorial Panel 28 to 30.
Edwin George Gascoyne born in Cosgrove, baptised at Cosgrove 17th December 1882 (recorded as Edwin George Gaskins. Moved to Bradwell and thence to Nottingham. Killed in Action aged 34 years on 21st April 1917, serving with 11th Battalion, King’s Royal Rifle Regiment, and buried in St Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen.
George Robert Knight was born in Old Stratford and was killed in action at Gallipoli serving with the 1st Battalion, Border Regiment on 28th June 1915, aged 22 years. He is listed on the Helles Memorial.
World War 2
Donald George Hill was born in Cosgrove 1st October 1926 and baptised 3rd April 1927. He was buried 21st April 1943 aged 16 years 5 months. We do not know if he died in service as a Cadet Sergeant and would welcome any information about him.
John Hornsby Max was born to Old Stratford parents and died on D Day, 6th June 1944 serving with the Parachute Regiment. He is buried in Ranville Cemetery, Normandy IVA H20.
