This was the period during which houses were built in Cosgrove which were Council houses in the modern sense. People wanted to move into these houses because they were the first rented houses to have electricity. Council cottages, rented to tenants by the Parish, still remained. Households with more than one person with the same name - perhaps father and son - were given additional codes to distinguish them.The first Electoral Roll is dated 1833, but only occupiers of property of over £50 were included on the voting list.
In 1886 all male householders were included, but also included some women if they were in business.
It was not until 1919 that women appeared on the electoral rolls in their own right.
