WHEATLEYS Cricket Club held their annual dinner at the Craufurd Arms Hotel on Saturday.

Proposing the toast to the club’s vice-president and former playing member Mr. Arthur Kightley said Wheatleys. were a most friendly club and played the game in the spirit it was intended, he had been quite happy to complete his playing career with them Continuing, he remarked that the club had always been prepared to persevere with young players, three of whom had won the three main awards last year.

Replying, Mr. John Church welcomed guests from Leighton Rovers, Old Towcesterians, Hanslope and Passenham clubs, also players and officials and lady tea helpers were thanked for their effort in making last season an enjoyable one.

The presentations followed, Mrs. W. Donaldson presenting the Batting award to Colin Kightley with runner-up Graham Brandom, Bowling award to Kevin Slaymaker, runner-up Colin Farmer. The award for Fielding went the Graham Brandom along with the Single-wicket contest. Colin Farmer was the runner-up. Colin also took the Six-hit Cup. John Church was the Club-man of the Year. Mrs. J. Gordon presented the Sports Centre Trophy to Sportsman of the Year Cliff Brandom.

The ladies were not forgotten, Mesdames W. Donaldson, J. Gordon and B. Richards were presented with bouquets, Mrs. J. Church, Mrs. A. R. Kightley, Mrs. P. Tustain and Miss D. French received gifts.

Dancing and games followed with the “Bim” Morris Group providing ,the music. Mr. Reg Russell assisted by Mr. John Church was M.C.
