Gabriel Rand 1774

In the Name of God Amen I Gabriel Rand of Cosgrave in the County of Northampton Yeoman being in good health and of Sound and disposing mind memory and understanding do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in Writing in manner and form following I commend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God and my Body to the Earth to be decently buryed at the discretion of my Executrix and Executor hereafter named hoping for Eternal life through Jesus Christ my Saviour and Redeemer And as for my Temporal Estate I give and dispose thereof as followeth I give and devise all and singular my Messuages or Tenements Lands Ley or Sward ground of what nature or kindsoever and wheresoever the same or any part thereof is or shall be situate lying and being with the Appurtenances to the same or any part thereof belonging or any wise appertaining unto my dear and loving Wife Mary Rand for and during the term of her natural life And from and after her decease I give and devise the same to my Son Gabriel Rand to him and his Heirs for ever charged and chargeable nevertheless with the payment of an Annuity or Yearly Sum of four pounds a Year to my Daughter Mary Elliott for and during her natural life to and for her own separate use and benefit notwithstanding her present or future Coverture in and concerning which her Husband shall have no right power or Controul but her receipt from time to time shall be a full proper and sufficient discharge for the same And my Will and Meaning is that my Wife shall have the Interest benefit and management of all my Personal Estate of what nature or kindsoever for and during her Life for her maintenance and Livellhood and for the helping and supporting of such of my Children as she shall think most worthy of her care and assistance and at her Decease I give and bequeath one half of the money she shall die possessed of to my said Son and the other half part thereof to my Daughter Hannah Rand All my Household Goods and Linen I give and bequeath to my two Daughters to be equally divided between them except one Bedstead and Bedding (at my Wife’s choice) And my Watch which I give to my said Son And my Will and meaning further is that in case my Wife shall think proper she may give the Share or part of the Share of my said Personal Estate to such or all of my said Children in her Lifetime But my Will and meaning further is and I do hereby Expressly will and require that in case my Wife shall marry again that then and in such case the devise of my Real Estate and Bequest of my Personal Estate to her during her Life as aforesaid shall be absolutely Void and the same shall go to and immediately become the property of my said Children as before directed And my Wife in such case to have and enjoy her Dower only And I appoint my Wife and my Son Executrix and Executor of this my last Will hereby revoking all former Wills by me heretofore made and do ratify and confirm this present Writing as and for my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this fifth day of July in the year of Our Lord One thousand seven hundred and sixty two Gabl Rand Signed Sealed Published and declared by the said Testator as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who have likewise subscribed our names as Witnesses at his request in his presence and in the presence of each other (the Letter “h” being first interlined William Turvey Joseph Roberts William Corbett
