Edward Furtho 1621

In the Name of God Amen the Tennth daye of October Anno Dim 1621 And in the Nyneteenth yeare of the Reigne of our Soveraign Lord James by the grace of god King of England France and Ireland defender of the Faith etc And of Scotland the Five and Fifteth

I Edward Furtho of Cosgrave in the County of Northampton Esquire beinge sicke and weake of bodie yet of good and perfect memory laud and praise be given to Allmightie God for the same Doe therefore make and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form followinge That is to saie First and principally I committ my soule into the handes of Almighty god my maker and Creator trusting by faith in Jesus Christ my onely Saviour and Redeemer to have remission for all my sinns and after this life ended to live and raigne with him in the kingdom of heaven Amen And my bodie I Committ to the earthe whereof it was made to be buried in manner and form followinge that is to saie First I desire the same to be ymbalmed and afterwards to be carried unto the parish of Furtho in the said Countie of Northampton and there to have soleume buryall in the vault within the said parish Church where my late deceased father lyeth buryed referring all other rightes and business concerning my buriall to the discretion and ordering of my Executors hereafter named

Item as Concerning that estate of Land and goodes which the Lord of his mercie hath bestowed upon me I give and bequeath thereof in manner and forme followinge That is to saie First I give and bequeath unto my brother Anthony Stanton and to Anna his wife to each of them mourning gownes

Item I give and bequeathe unto my brother Samuell Mansell a mourning gowne and a mourning Cloake And to his wife Nytinggall Mansell a mourning gowne

Item I give and bequeath to all my menservants to every one of them mourning cloaks

Item I give and bequeathe unto Robert Joyner thelder and to Robert Joyner his sonne to each of them mourning Cloakes

Item I give and bequeathe unto my servant William Cheyney one Annuitie or yearlie some of Fifteene pounds of lawful money of England to be paid unto him or his Assignes quarterlie by even portions duringe his naturale life

Item I give and bequeathe unto my Clerke Richard Weston one Annuitie or yearlie some of Tenn pounde of lawful monie of England To be alsoe paid unto him or his assignes quarterlie by even portions duringe his naturall life

Item I give and bequeathe unto my Steward Robert Ives one Annuitie or yerelye some of Eight poundes of lawful monie of England To be alsoe paid unto him or his sssignes quarterlie by even portions during his naturall life

Item I give and bequeathe unto the groome of my Stable by name Thomas Granstocke one Annuitie or yearlie some of seaven poundes of lawful monie of England To be alsoe paid unto him or his Assignes quarterlie by even portions during his naturall life

Item I give and bequeathe unto Robert my Footman Thirtye poundes of lawful money of England

Item I give and bequeathe unto my servant Edward Parratt the some of Twentye poundes of lawful monie of England

Item I give and bequeathe unto my old William Emerson one Annuitie or yearlie some of Fower poundes of lawfull monie of England To be also paid unto him or his assigns quarterlie by even portions during his naturall life

Item I give and bequeathe unto Mistress Jane Sawell dwelling in Yorkshire one Annuity or yearlie some of one hundred poundes of lawfull monie of England To be also paid unto her or her assignes quarterlie by even portions during her naturall life

Item I give and bequeathe unto my unkle John Gascoigne one Annuitie or yearely some of Twentie poundes of lawful monie of England To be also paid unto him or his assignes quarterly by even portions during his naturall life

Item I give and bequeathe unto my unkle Christopher Gascoigne the like Annuitie or yearelie some of twentie poundes of lawfull monie of England to be also paid unto him or his assignes quarterly by even portions during his naturall

Item I give and bequeathe unto my godmother and Aunt Katheryne Gascoigne one Annuitie or yearely some of Fourtie poundes of lawfull monie of England to be also paid unto her or her assigns quarterly by even portions during her naturall life

Item I give and bequeathe unto my Aunt Chibnoll the wife of Richard Chibnall one Annuitie or yearelye some of Fortie poundes of lawfull monie of England To be also paid unto her or her assignes quarterly by even portions duringe her naturall life

Item I give and bequeathe unto my cozen Edward Longfeild one Annuitie or yerelie some of Twentie poundes of lawfull monie of England To be also paid unto him or his Assignes quarterlie by even portions during his naturall life

Item I give and bequeathe unto Frances Longfeild dwelling in Buckinghamshire one annuitie or yerelie some of Tenn poundes of lawful monie of England To be paid unto him or his assignes quarterlie by even portions during his naturall life

Item I give and bequeathe unto my Arthure Longfeild one Annuitie or yerelie some of Five poundes of lawfull monie of England to be also paid unto him or his assignes quarterlie by even portions duringe his naturall life

Item I give and bequeathe unto my servant Joane Twentie poundes of lawfull monie of England

Item I give and bequeathe unto my servant Alice Tenn poundes of lawfull monie of England

Item I give and bequeathe to and amongst all the people inhabiting within the parishes or places where I have anie land lying and being the some of Forty poundes of lawfull monye of England to be distributed at the discretion of my said Executors equallie in a proper reasonable manner

Item I give and bequeathe unto Robert Joyner living at Causgrave aforesaid The sonn of Robert Joyner the sum of twenty poundes of lawfull money of England

Item my will and mind is that all and everie the before recited legacies as well annuities as otherwise shallbe all raysed levyed Charged yssuing taxed and payable out of all my landes and movable goodes as namelie Chattell wood timber and stone or anie other goodes whatsoever (excepting onlie) Three horses That is to saie my grey mare my Bay stone horse Called by the name of Kurelstone and my Dunn geld nagg all which three I freelie give and bequeathe unto my said brother Anthony Stanton

Item I give and bequeathe all and singular my landes Tenements and Hereditaments goodes and Chattells yet unbequeathed my debtes legacies and funerall Charges beinge first deducted paid and satisffied in everie respect accordinge to this my will as I have above sett forth and declared freelie and absolutelie unto my said brother Anthony Stanton and his now wife my brother Sammuell Mansell and his wife To have and to hold all my said landes tenementes and hereditamentes and the goodes as aforesaid unto the said Anthony Stanton and his wife the said Sammuell Mansell and his wife and their heires for ever

Item my will and mind further is That yf it shall happen anie default to be made of or in the payment of anie of the said Annuities or other legacies by me given as aforesaid That then it shalbe lawfull to and for him her or them whoml in that behalfe it shall concerne according to the due courte of lawe to distreyne for the same or such parte thereof as shall happen to be unpaid Contrarie to the true intent and meaninge of this my will in and uppon my said Landes Tenementes and goodes and that from time to time as often as annie purchase shall soe happen And I do make and ordaine my said brother Anthony Stanton And my brother Samuell Mansel to be my full and sole Executors of this my last will and testament Charging them to see that same trulie performed in all thinges according to my true meaninges And I do nominate and appoint my said unckle John Gascoigne and my said unckle Christopher Gascoigne to be Overseers of this my last will and testament desiring them to the utmost of their powers to be assisting and helping unto my said Executors in the due execution thereof And I do by these presents revoke and disannul all former wills heretofore by me made And do ratify this for my last will and Testament and none other or otherwise In witnes whereof I the said Edward Furtho have hereunto sett my hand and seale the day and yeare first above written Edward Furtho Sealed signed published and delivered the daie and yeare abovesaid for his last will and Testament in the presence of us whose names are here underwritten Antho: Barber Sir Abraham Stepe?
