Churchyard Improvements
We are greatly indebted to the kindness of Major Fermor Hesketh who has, at his own expense, employed two of his men with a tractor. They have transformed the old Churchyard on the South side of the Church by clearing out the large thicket of snowberries, numbers of unsightly elders, etc, taken all the ivy off the walls, and transferred a number of old untidy tombstones to make a neat row along the wall. This is a public benefaction which merits our grateful appreciation.
In 2007 and 2008 a group of enthusiasts, including Bryan Egan, Heather Rokkjer and Terry Stretton began to record the monuments in the various churchyard sections at Cosgrove.
This involved them in a major clearance project to remove undergrowth and reveal stones and gravemarkers across the site. Each monument was measured, and the attributions transcribed.
Plan of graves next to to Church. The recorded numbers follow on from the North side of the Church.
Names coloured in blue and green are multiple burials in grave. Names in Black are single burials in grave

Old Mail March 2000 - The Millennium Yew Graham Wort (Churchwarden)
On Sunday 10th October 1999 I collected a yew tree from Bugbrooke. I duly borrowed my wife’s estate car not knowing how big this tree was to be. The afternoon service for the presentation of this tree was a memorable event.
Expecting a short handover service and blessing I was surprised to find cars everywhere, even a nearby field was full. St Michael and All Angels is a beautiful Church and inside it was decorated for their Harvest Festival. About 150 parishes were represented and the church was packed to overflowing.
The service was led by Canon Tim Partridge. Five “Reminiscences” were spoken by “an old yew tree” and the Very Reverend Michael Bunker, Dean of Peterborough, gave an inspiring address themed on a yew tree. The oldest yew is estimated to be 8000 years old. Our yew tree is taken from the Tandridge yew tree in Surrey, estimated to be 2500 years old (although it doesn’t say that on its little label).
My biggest surprise was the sheer size of our tree. The estate car was hardly necessary as this mighty tree didn’t even poke out of the carrier bag that it came in. However, I am assured that it will grow. The tree was blessed in our church by the vicar Leslie at the Millennium Service.
